Our private health care services put a smile on every client's face!

If you’re considering private home care services, we don’t have to tell you how stressful it can be to weigh your options. Because you’re not just looking for someone to do a job. You’re looking for someone who can care for your loved one and keep them safe.

And, when finding the perfect caregiver, it’s hard to gauge how responsible and committed they will be to your loved one. Whether they’re elderly or have a disability, you know how demanding caring for them can be. So if you’re unsure what exactly to ask your caretaker before entrusting them with the well-being of your loved one, you came to the right place.

Because, at Miami Valley Homecare, we’ve been proudly providing premier assisted living services to Centerville, Xenia, Beavercreek, Fairborn, Oakwood, and Dayton, Ohio, for years.

Here are 5 essential questions to ask your caretaker.

1. How far away do you live?

This is crucial when selecting private home care services. It’s impossible to predict when your loved one will need help. And, especially in instances of emergency, you’ll need them to respond fast. Sometimes instantaneously. So if they don’t live close, this could be more than a problem. It could be a hazard.

2. Have you ever cared for someone in my loved one’s condition before?

This is an essential question to ask. Because you likely won’t be ecstatic about someone who’s completely inexperienced caring for your loved one. Curveballs should be expected, but you want someone who knows how to resolve any issue and can respond in an appropriate way. Your private home care services should have every answer and every response down pat. It’s what you deserve. And, more importantly, it’s what your loved one deserves.

3. What’s your availability like and what other commitments do you have?

It’s not selfish to expect your private home care services to be at your beck and call. It’s reasonable. Because, when it comes to your loved one’s health and contentment, availability is key. Also, be sure to ask what other commitments they have to get a feel for if they could potentially clash with your expectations. Which should be high.

4. Do you have CPR and first-aid training? When’s the last time you had to use it and why?

This is probably pretty self-explanatory, but those providing private home care services should be more than capable of administering CPR and first-aid. These are life-saving skills that should be considered a prerequisite.

And, while you’re at it, ask them the last time you had to use it and why. There are two primary reasons. Firstly, if they’ve never had to use these skills, maybe they’re not as capable as you need them to be. And, secondly, when they detail their account of using this training, you should listen to see if they had to use it as a result of their own negligence.

5. Do you smoke?

Especially around elderly folks, you don’t want private home care services exposing them to second-hand smoke. It’s just unhealthy. Plus, you don’t want them stepping outside every hour leaving your loved one unattended. That’s nothing short of negligence. And, depending on the neighborhood, the optics could simply be bad if someone’s smoking on the property.
